Laco Original Pilot Watches are authentic reconstructions of the legendary observation watches of the 1940s, also known as B-Uhr (Beobachtungsuhren). Originally, only a small number of manufacturers were authorized by the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) to produce these pilot watches, which were conceived as navigation instruments with an impressive diameter of 55 mm.
Alongside IWC, Lange & Söhne, Stowa and Wempe, Laco was one of the five original manufacturers that created a true icon of watchmaking, whose aesthetic has inspired countless wristwatches. With its Original Pilot Watches, Laco today offers the most faithful reconstructions of this type of timepiece available on the market.
In addition to the replica with the historic 55 mm diameter, the collection is available in contemporary case sizes of 39, 42 and 45 mm. All components are proportionally adapted to each size, always based on the original construction plans.
The current models share many features with their historic predecessors, such as the iconic logo-free dial to avoid distractions, Type A (Baumuster A) or Type B (Baumuster B) dials, the straight-lug case shape with a matte anti-reflective finish, and excellent legibility both day and night thanks to the use of modern Super-LumiNova instead of radioactive materials.
Another distinctive feature is the large, easy-to-grip crown, designed to allow the watch to be operated even while wearing gloves. The lateral engraving “FL 23883” refers to a former classification number rather than a serial number; on current models, this engraving is displayed on the exterior of the case. The rivets on the leather strap, which once served a structural purpose, are now preserved as an aesthetic tribute to the original design.
This particular model is equipped with the Laco 210 manual-winding movement, based on the Sellita SW 210. The case is made of stainless steel with a dark sandblasted finish and features the “FL 23883” engraving. It is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and a solid engraved case back.
The dial features numerals and indices treated with Super-LumiNova C3, while the thermally blued steel hands are filled with the same luminous material to ensure excellent legibility in all lighting conditions.
It is completed with a brown calfskin leather strap with rivets and is delivered in a watch box with an outer cardboard box included.
