At that time, only a limited number of manufacturers were authorized to produce these pilot watches according to the strict requirements of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM), the former German Ministry of Aviation.
With their impressive original diameter of 55 mm, these watches were used as true navigation instruments. Together with IWC, Laco, Lange & Söhne, Stowa and Wempe, a watchmaking classic was created whose design has inspired countless wristwatches.

With their impressive original diameter of 55 mm, these watches were used as true navigation instruments. Together with IWC, Laco, Lange & Söhne, Stowa and Wempe, a watchmaking classic was created whose design has inspired countless wristwatches.
With the Pilot Watches Original collection, Laco today presents the most faithful reconstructions of this type of watch available on the market, bringing the spirit of the legendary pilot and observation watches to the wrist.
In addition to the replica with the historic 55 mm diameter, the collection is offered in contemporary case sizes of 39, 42 and 45 mm. All components are proportionally adapted to each size, always based on the original historical construction plans.
The current models share many characteristics with the historic watches, such as the iconic logo-free dial designed to avoid distractions, Type A (Baumuster A) or Type B (Baumuster B) dial layouts, and the characteristic case shape with straight lugs and a matte grey finish to prevent reflections in the cockpit.
Optimal legibility, both by day and by night, remains a top priority. While radioactive materials were used in the past, today only safe Super-LumiNova luminous material is employed. The distinctive oversized crown allows the watch to be operated easily, even when wearing gloves.
The lateral engraving “FL 23883” represents a former classification number rather than a serial number and is accompanied by a bottom marking with unit number, manufacturer and movement designation. On historic models this engraving was located inside the case, while on current versions it is displayed on the exterior. The rivets on the leather strap, which once served a structural purpose, are now retained purely as a decorative reference to the original design.
This model is powered by the Laco 210 hand-wound movement, based on the reliable Sellita SW 210. The case is crafted from stainless steel with a dark sandblasted finish and features the “FL 23883” engraving. It is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and a solid engraved case back.
The dial features numerals and indices treated with Super-LumiNova C3, while the thermally blued steel hands are filled with the same luminous material, ensuring excellent readability in all lighting conditions.
The watch is completed with a brown calfskin leather strap with rivets and is delivered in a presentation watch box with an outer cardboard box included.
