The Laco Flieger Original Dortmund 45mm Manual Wind is an extremely faithful recreation of the historic German observation watches of the 1940s, known as B-Uhr (Beobachtungsuhren), originally designed as aircraft navigation instruments.
Initially, only five manufacturers—IWC, Laco, Lange & Söhne, Stowa, and Wempe—were authorized by the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) to produce these watches under strict technical specifications. With an original diameter of 55 mm, these timepieces became true benchmarks of instrumental watchmaking. With the Pilot Watches Original collection, Laco offers the most authentic reconstructions of these historic watches currently available, adapting their proportions to contemporary sizes like this imposing 45 mm format, always respecting the original construction plans. This model retains all the distinctive elements of the historic watches: an iconic dial without a logo to avoid distractions, a Type A (Baumuster A) design with Arabic numerals and a triangle with two dots at 12 o'clock, and exceptional legibility both day and night thanks to the use of Super-LumiNova C3. The dark sandblasted stainless steel case features straight lugs and a matte surface to prevent cockpit reflections, and incorporates the historic engraving FL 23883 on the side, along with a solid engraved case back that reinforces its technical and instrumental character. The watch is powered by a hand-wound movement. The Laco 210 manual-winding movement, based on the reliable Swiss caliber Sellita SW 210, offers a pure mechanical experience and a direct connection to classic watchmaking tradition. The thermally blued steel hands, filled with Super-LumiNova C3, provide optimal contrast and clear legibility even in low-light conditions. It is completed with a brown calfskin strap with studs, a historical detail that retains aesthetic value today and reinforces the watch's authentic character. The watch is delivered in a presentation box with an included cardboard insert.
